6 DAYS WILDLIFE, WINE AND GARDEN ROUTE
This round trip begins in Cape Town and travels through Barrydale, Oudtshoorn and Knysna, where you will experience local life at a farm school, before enjoying the ‘ostrich feather capital’ Oudtshoorn and Knysna, a verdant paradise. Your safari will be reveled in at a private game reserve that is malaria-free and features the Big Five. The journey concludes with a trip to Hermanus, a whale-watching mecca (in season) and ending in Franschhoek, South Africa’s French corner, where wine and art create the ambience of a distinguished experience.
Day 1 – Thursday – Cape town to Oudtshoorn
Prepare for your great adventure at Little Karoo, travelling via Montagu, a charming spa town. This morning, enjoy tea and scones at Art Deco Hotel in South Africa. Make a stop in the town of Barrydale and discover a nearby farm school, engage with kids and instructors and explore the history of the Farm School Development and this amazing rural area. (The school visit is subject to the school being open) Before moving on to Oudtshoorn, the epicenter of the global ostrich farming industry, appreciate the finest port-style wines in Calitzdorp. Spend the night in Oudshoorn and savor regional specialties at an Ostrich farm. (Dinner)

DAY 2 – Friday – Oudtshoorn to Knysna
Today, enjoy morning breakfast and take a tour of the magnificent limestone cavers of the Cango Caves, one of the nature’s greatest creations and a global wonder. Return to Oudtshoorn for an entertaining tour followed by lunch at an Ostrich farm including regional delicacies like Ostrich Steak. We continue our journey through the breathtaking Outeniqua Pass to George, the administrative hub of the Garden Route area and then on to Knysna, also referred to as the oyster box of South Africa, nestling on the banks of a stunning lagoon. Along the way, visit the Map of Africa, a remarkable viewpoint in wilderness. Spend the night in Knysna. (Breakfast & Lunch)

DAY 3 – Saturday – Knysna
Enjoy a lagoon cruise to the Featherbed Nature Reserve and take a trailer ride to the top of the Western Head to enjoy panoramic views of the town and lagoon, returning for a sumptuous lunch. Guests have the afternoon to further explore this quaint town set around a natural harbour lagoon. Spend the night in Knysna. (Breakfast & Lunch)

DAY 4 – Sunday – Knysna to Albertina
After a leisurely breakfast, travel to Albertinia, a town situated against the backdrop of the spectacular Langeberg Mountain Range, via George and Mossel Bay. En-route, enjoy a leisurely walk or swim at Victoria Bay, one of the Garden Route’s most picturesque and smallest bays. Join an afternoon open vehicle game drive, at a malaria free private game reserve and see a variety of animals and birds, including the Big Five. Savor a casual dinner of safari cuisine. Spend the night in the region of Albertina. (Breakfast and Dinner)

Day 5 – Monday – Albertina to Hermanus
A game drive in an open vehicle early in the morning rounds off the safari experience. An expert guide will endeavor to spoil guests with sightings of the Big Five, general games and abundant birdlife. The trip will lead guests to the charging Cape Dutch town of Swellendam after leaving the bush behind. This appealing town was founded in 1745 and is well-known for its youngberries, unique architecture and National Parks as well as outdoor activities. The trip continues to the coastal community of Hermanus, known as the “heart of the whale route” which provides the world’s best land-based whale watching from August to November. Enjoy a peaceful dinner at the Heritage Restaurant, located in one of Hermanu’s historic fisherman’s huts where delicious meals are made using seasonal ingredients and local produce. Overnight in Hermanus. (Breakfast & Dinner)

Day 6 – Tuesday – Hermanus to Cape Town
Following a relaxed breakfast depart from Hermanus and travel to Franschhoek, a picturesque village encircled by spectacular vineyards. More than 300 years ago, French Huguenots settled in Franschhoek, bringing with them their ancient French wine and cuisine traditions. The tour guide will take guests on a tour through Franschloek village, sharing the fascinating history of the French Huguenots, then drive the guests by the Victor Vester prison, where Nelson Mandela was released from in 1990. The excursion concludes upon arrival in Cape Town, the oldest city in South Africa, which is breathtakingly situated at the base of Table Mountain. (Breakfast)
